ARES of
Cleveland County is coordinated by the ARRL Appointed Emergency
Coordinator Ben Melvin, KM4C.
The
Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) group directly serves the Cleveland County Citizens by working
for Cleveland County Emergency Management. At any time,
Emergency Management can request communications support from
ARES of Cleveland County and ARES will report directly to
Emergency Management.
ARES of Cleveland County
is composed of volunteer amateur radio operators
providing communications support to local organizations in times
of emergencies and during public service events. |

Shelby Amateur Radio Club is proud to be the supporter of the ARES ® Amateur Radio Emergency
Service of Cleveland County. We take great pride in our club's history in Emergency
Communication and are proud to continue that tradition through our sponsorship
of the ARRL Amateur Radio Emergency Service in Cleveland County.
Involvement in ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service) does not require membership in Shelby Amateur Radio Club
or in ARRL. Being a licensed amateur radio operator, however, is a
requirement for membership in ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service).
Once registered with ARES and your EC registers your station with the
Emergency Management director, your station will then become registered with
Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service under the North Carolina Emergency Plan
found on ncarrl.org.
Participation in ARES of Cleveland County
does require a certain amount of commitment. The Department of Homeland
Security now requires anyone with a direct role in Emergency response to become
certified in FEMA Courses. These courses can be taken online, free from
the FEMA website.
To Join, fill out the
form and bring to the local Emergency Coordinator (who
can be found at the Shelby Amateur Radio Club meetings and at the ARES meetings
posted on this website).
We look forward to providing our community with communications in emergencies
and other community events. For more information please contact the
Emergency Coordinator at
info@clevelandcountyares.org
